2010 SUMMER PROGRAMS

Discovery Zone is gearing up for our Summer Programs. We’re bringing back some favorites from last summer, and adding a new camp to our selection as well. Times, locations, and age levels for our activities vary, so please make sure to read the program information carefully. Students MUST pre-register with Community Schools in order to participate. Please call the Community Schools office at 497-5282 for additional information, or to register for any of our programs.

Because our summer programs have limited availability, we often have waiting lists. For this reason, we require that payment be received within a week of our registration deadlines to secure a spot. If payment is not received, we will contact a wait-listed student and offer them the spot. Checks should be made out to NMCCS, and can be dropped off at the Community Schools building, or mailed to us at:

Discovery Zone
W3719 Grove Lane
P.O. Box 395
Powers, MI 49874

* IMPORTANT NOTE: STUDENTS ARE TO PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES ACCORDING TO THE GRADE THEY WERE IN DURING THE 2009-2010 SCHOOL YEAR.

This camp does not require any special wardrobe – each participant will receive a t-shirt to wear for their performance. Participation will be limited to 25 students.

OTHER SUMMER PROGRAMS

Volleyball Camp
Carney-Nadeau varsity volleyball coach Steve Kedsch will lead our Volleyball Camp again this year, which is open to boys & girls grades 5-8*. The camp will run Monday June 21 & Tuesday, June 22 from 5-8 p.m. CST at the Carney Nadeau High School Gym. Cost for the camp is $15, and participants will receive a t-shirt and a beverage both days.

Softball
The summer softball program, which runs about eight weeks beginning mid-June, includes girls and boys grades 2-8. The purpose of the league is to provide EVERY child an opportunity to take part in every game his/her team plays. Our emphasis is on recreation, participation and sportsmanship, not on winning. We expect parents to help this program and the children by setting good sportsmanship examples. Games are played at Veterans Park in Powers and at the Carney field near the school.

Teeball
Tee-ball is very similar to baseball, except that no pitcher is used. Instead, the ball is struck off a "tee" which is placed on the ground near home plate. This program is for children ages 4, 5, 6 and 7. It is designed to be a training program that will promote development of physical coordination, instruction, participation, and learning about "team play." It begins mid-June, and lasts until the final week of July. Games are played at Veterans Park in Powers, the Hermansville Little League field, and at the Carney field near the school.

SAVE THE DATE: This year’s softball/tee-ball picnic will be held at the Hermansville Little League Field on Wednesday, July 28 from 3-6 p.m. CST.

Afterschool Program

The pilot program was held in May of 2007 at Carney-Nadeau School. It was a huge success! North Central Area Schools pilot program was started in the fall of 2007. Bark River-Harris Schools pilot program has just started in April 2008. All three schools programs are up and running.
